-
AVC – Access Virtual Circuit
Unique identifier for each NBN service. Used for provisioning, billing, and authentication. -
BBU – Battery Backup Unit
Optional device that powers the FTTP NTD for limited time during power outages. -
CA Date – Churn Authority Date
Date the customer authorises transfer of a service to a new provider. -
CPE – Customer Premises Equipment
Customer-owned hardware such as routers, firewalls, or switches connected to the NBN service. -
CRD – Customer Required Date
The date by which the customer requests the service to be delivered or activated. -
DFD – Data Flow Detection
NBN system test that checks if data traffic is detected on a new service to confirm activation. -
FTTP – Fibre to the Premises
NBN technology type where fibre runs directly to the customer premises and terminates on an NTD. -
FTTN – Fibre to the Node
NBN technology where fibre runs to a street cabinet (node), then copper connects to the premises. -
HFC – Hybrid Fibre-Coaxial
NBN technology using fibre to a node and coaxial cable to the premises. -
IPoE – Internet Protocol over Ethernet
Authentication method that uses direct IP assignment over Ethernet without PPPoE encapsulation. -
LOC ID – Location ID
Unique identifier for each serviceable location in the NBN system. -
ND / NTD – Network Termination Device
NBN-supplied device installed inside the premises that terminates the fibre and provides UNI-D ports. -
NSNW – New Service Never Worked
Fault condition where a newly provisioned service has never been operational. -
PCD – Premises Connection Device
External termination point installed on the outside of the premises that connects the fibre lead-in. -
POI – Point of Interconnect
Location where RSPs interconnect with the NBN network. -
PPPoE – Point-to-Point Protocol over Ethernet
Common authentication method using username/password credentials encapsulated in Ethernet frames. -
RSP – Retail Service Provider
Telecommunications provider selling services to end users (e.g., via Vocus Wholesale). -
SLA – Service Level Agreement
Agreement defining restoration timeframes and service response levels. -
eSLA – Enhanced Service Level Agreement
Higher tier SLA option with improved restoration timeframes and priority handling. -
UNI-D – User Network Interface – Data
Ethernet port(s) on the NTD used for connecting customer routers. -
UNI-V – User Network Interface – Voice
Voice-specific port on legacy NTDs for analogue phone services (not supported on newer FTTP NTDs).
